Chair of Pig Health and Welfare Council (PHWC)

We are currently looking for a Chair of Pig Health and Welfare Council which is a role funded through levies provided by AHDB.

The Pig Health and Welfare Council (PHWC) is an independent body with a membership that reflects a range of organisations involved in the pork sector (see Annex A). It facilitates the pork sector’s drive in tackling disease and welfare issues across the UK, working with partners in the four nations to promote improved health and welfare.

To underpin meaningful progress, PHWC will work with industry and governments to influence collective action to effectively prevent, manage and control disease and welfare challenges across the pork sector.

The PHWC provides the single, unified voice of our industry on pork health and welfare – a voice which will drive change and facilitate the sharing of best practice, the dissemination of facts and dispelling of myths. It will be an honest broker within our food supply chains and will help ensure that any levy funding, membership fees and public funds channeled through it for pork health and welfare, are spent in a cost-effective and transparent manner.
