Pork sector levy payers operate in a dynamic market environment, exploiting opportunities in an evolving domestic market and a growing number of overseas export markets while navigating the threat of animal disease and the challenges of an evolving government policy landscape.
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) is a critical enabler for the industry and helps shape the future of farming in the UK. Working with AHDB, you won’t just be helping our farmers and processors produce the food we eat and look after our environment, you’ll be shaping the future of food production and leaving a legacy for the next generation.
We are now recruiting for a Sector Council Member with experience in the pork industry.
Applications from those with working knowledge of pig breeding and rearing are particularly encouraged to support the Sector Council Chair in the effective delivery of the sector council’s core responsibilities as delegated by the AHDB board, including levy payer engagement, advising what work should be funded for the sector and, hence, determining the levy rate.
Sector Council Members play a crucial role in deciding what work should be commissioned for their sector and ensuring there is effective engagement between levy payers and AHDB. Members are required to abide by the AHDB Code of Conduct for Board and Committee members (the Code), which includes the Seven Principles of Public Life.
Appointments are for an initial three-year term from November 2025 and require a commitment of up to two days per month per year, including attendance at sector council meetings.
Candidates who can bring specific insight into the challenges and opportunities facing smaller, independent pig farmers will be highly valued and are especially welcome.
Closing date for applications: 12.9.25
Anticipated interview dates (via MS Teams): week commencing 15 or 22 September 2025
All final appointments are subject to ratification via levy payer vote during October 2025. Any successful candidates will join for induction at our head office in Coventry on 20 November 2025.
Please note we reserve the right to close the vacancy early should we receive a significant number of suitable applications.
At AHDB, you'll find we are committed to developing, maintaining and supporting a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. This applies to both our workforce and the practices we follow.
